Patented is an applicator for a sanitary tampon. The applicator features an outer tube with openings at the front and rear ends. The tampon is placed in the outer tube and an inner plunger is movable in an axial direction within the outer tube to eject the tampon. The outer tube has an outer diameter that gradually increases rearwardly from the front end until a maximum outer diameter region is reached. The tube then gradually decreases rearwardly from the maximum outer diameter region. The outer diameter region extends between the front end and a midpoint of the outer tube and is no longer than 1⁄2 of the outer tube’s full length. The inner plunger is formed as an inner tube with openings at front and rear ends.
